Hurricane Sandy grinds the presidential campaigns to a halt

NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Instead of campaigning today as planned President Obama is getting briefings at the White House and warning Americans:
"Please listen to what your state and local officials are saying. When they tell you to evacuate, you need to evacuate."
Mr. Obama declared emergencies in eight states plus Washington D.C. before the storm.
Two more, Virginia and West Virginia, were was added early this morning, along with the first federal disaster areas: New Jersey and New York.
With President Obama busy in Washington, President Clinton filled in at a rally in Ohio.
Govenor Mitt Romney hass scheduled a storm relief rally in Ohio as well.
He and Paul Ryan are urging supporters to donate, while trying to avoid the perception that they're inserting politics into the relief effort.
One week before the election, polls are tied but campaigning is at a standstill.
