GOP hopefuls press on despite Romney's widening lead
NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Mitt Romney has climbed to a commanding 23 point lead in the latest national Gallup poll of Republicans, with more than double the support of his nearest competitors.
The latest Washington Post/ ABC News poll was also good news for Romney.
It shows him winning in a head-to-head match against President Obama, 48 to 46 percent.
Still, Newt Gingrich is urging anti-Romney conservative voters to rally around his campaign, but
so far there is no sign Rick Santorum or Rick Perry voters will shift to Gingrich when they head to the polls in South Carolina on Saturday.
It's the same conservative vote split that helped Romney take Iowa and New Hampshire.
