Candidates looking for the Republican presidential nomination will make a stop in Louisiana.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in New Orleans today, Friday, March 16. Rick Santorum says he's making a stop in Baton Rouge over the weekend and plans on making a stop at the LSU baseball game. He was also in Lafayette on Tuesday. Mitt Romney says he’s making stops in Louisiana, too, but there are no details on where or when that will be. No word on Ron Paul, either.

This year the bayou state is more important than usual. That's because experts say the nomination process has gone on longer than normal.

During most years a lot of candidates vying for the republican vote of faith have dropped out by now, but not this time around.

"It’s still important in the sense of who is winning, who is losing, the momentum gain, should candidates drop out, all the expectations play in Louisiana as well," Kirby Goidel, LSU professor, explains.

Experts say they expect Rick Santorum to win here in the Bayou State, based on the highly conservative voter turnout.
