Tucker running for Secretary of State
Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Jim Tucker announces he's running for Secretary of State in the October election.
Tucker, a republican from Terrytown, announced his candidacy Monday to the Press Club of Baton Rouge.
The term-limited lawmaker says he expects the race to cost about $1 million. He says if elected, he'd focus on helping small businesses registering with the state, protecting state archives and running fair elections.
“This state has been successful and is moving in the right direction,” said Tucker. “I am very excited about my personal opportunities and even more excited about opportunities for the people of this state."
By getting into the October 22 primary, Tucker will be taking on two other republicans: current officeholder Tom Schedler and Republican Walker Hines of New Orleans. Schedler took over as Secretary of State when Jay Dardenne was elected lieutenant governor.
