Chauvin, La (NBC33) — Since the spill, shrimpers, shoreline business owners, and even those who work with fishermen have been waiting for compensation from BP.
The road to getting that check in the mail hasn't been easy for some people - including Kim Chauvin of the Mariah Jade Shrimp Company.
She told us she was frustrated after spending hours on the phone with BP and not getting anywhere.
“Not one inkling of anything has changed,” states Chauvin. “It’s way past frustrating. I don't even know if we have a work for this anymore.”
She says she's given piles upon piles of paperwork to the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, but there's still no check in the mail.
The claims facility says they've approved a third of the almost 900,000 claims sent to them. Chavuin says she's far from the only one looking at big time financial problems.
“People are getting angry, they're having anxiety attacks. It’s depression that's settling in for some, feeling like there's nowhere to go,” says Chauvin. “There’s a company that’s getting away with such a dastardly act. And we are left to try and fend for ourselves, even though this company (BP) caused this whole catastrophe.”
