Gulf Coast Seafood Industry: Eat up!

BATON ROUGE (NBC33) - Workers in the seafood industry believe there's one thing that could hurt their business, more than the spill itself--negative stories.

Robert Walker runs the Louisiana Seafood Exchange in Baton Rouge.

He's still shipping out plenty of fresh, gulf seafood everyday.

However, he's worried about consumer confidence since people are hearing that fishing areas are closed or restaurants are running out of supply.

His concern is that seafood lovers might stop asking for their favorite dishes.

So he's spreading the message.

As long as customers demand seafood, he and his fellow distributors will have it.

"For us to ride this thing out, we're gonna have to have a united front where the industry is gulf-wide because very few companies in Louisiana, including myself can say all my products come from Louisiana," says Walker.

Walker says, if he has to, he'll bring in seafood from other states.
