Destin, FL — People in the tourism business are also looking at the anniversary of the Crisis on the Coast as the start to recovery. The spill has also had a huge impact on the people and businesses that call northwest Florida home. In fact, businesses are going to extraordinary lengths to bring business back to the area.
It’s a competition that represents a new time of hope. For the past week, an award winning team of sand sculptors have been working to build a monument for Sandestin.
Sandestin and the rest of Northwest Florida is famous for its sugary sand beaches and crystal clear water. But much of that image was destroyed in the months following the oil spill. As images spread across the world of tar balls on beaches, the calls for reservations began drying up.
State officials hope that people will see the progress in Sandestin and want to visit.
