Containing the Oil
VALDEZ, Ak (NBC33) - Whenever there's an oil spill - the first priority is making sure none of the oil impacts nearby shores.
Bob Benda is a professor at Prince William Sound Community College in Valdez. He was also front and center for the Exxon Valdez Spill. He says complacency and the oil industry not being ready is what caused millions of gallons to soak the Prince William Sound coastline.
He's not surprised it happened 20 years later in the Gulf. He adds with the size of the Crisis on the Coast - it was assured some coastline would be impacted.
As our Assignment: Alaska series continues Tuesday on NBC33 News at 10:00, we'll talk with someone directly impacted with cleaning up Prince William Sound. We'll bring you his story and tell you how he thinks clean up went 20 years later in the Gulf of Mexico.
