BP gives $218 million to LA
NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVLA)- Big news announced Monday for Louisiana and its recovery efforts along the Gulf.
Congressman Anh "Joseph" Cao says BP has allocated $218 million for our coastal restoration, seafood testing and marketing programs.
Here's the break-down of those funds:
The Louisiana Department of Culture Recreation and Tourism will get $30 million
The Louisiana Seafood Safety and Promotion programs will receive $48 million.
And $140 million dollars will be allotted for barrier islands and other coastal efforts.
Congressman Cao has been putting pressure on the oil giant for months to expedite rebuilding efforts after the "Crisis on the Coast." He says this money is a step in the right direction but he'll continue working with leaders at all levels of government to keep holding BP accountable for damages from the April 20th catastrophe.
