As we approach the one year anniversary of the Crisis on the Coast, we’re still being reminded about how much work there is left to do. Today Senator Mary Landrieu announced that almost two million dollars is coming to the state.

The money comes from a grant from the Department of Commerce. The funds will be used to help communities and businesses affected by the crisis. Most of the money will go to the Louisiana Seafood Promotions and Marketing Board, along with the Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation.

“Our seafood industry has a $2.4 billion impact on our local economy, employs more than 27,000 people and is a staple in our cuisine and culture,” Sen. Ladrieu said in a press release issued this afternoon. “Although we know that our seafood is the finest in the world, these funds will expand Gulf seafood into new markets and create more business for our fisherman and shrimpers.”
