A Baton Rouge woman was arrested after the child she was babysitting was found wandering alone in a parking lot. She was already wanted by police for an outstanding warrant related to a DWI arrest.

According to reports, a deputy with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a business on Quinn Drive on Tuesday, June 2. Witnesses called police after they say a small child alone in the parking lot.

The child was unable to give the officer a home address, but the child was holding a cell phone. The officer called individuals listed in the phone and found out the home address for the child.

The officer took the child in his vehicle to the address located on the same road. He knocked on the door and Valerie D. Thronson, 41, answered the door.

Thronson told the officer that she was taking care of the child for her roommate, who was at work. She then told the officer that she fell asleep, and that’s when the child went missing.

The officer contacted the child’s father, who came to the residence and picked the child up.

Thronson was arrested and charged with Child Desertion and for the outstanding warrant for DWI (second offense). She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a bond of $3,500.
