Woman arrested for threatening people, taking a swing at a Sheriff’s Deputy
PONCHATOULA, LA (NBC33) — A 43-year old woman was arrested in Ponchatoula on Saturday, Jan. 28 for threatening people with a metal rod and then resisting arrest.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of a disturbance on Sandhill Cemetery Road Saturday evening. When they arrived, they found Rhonda Cortez of Fletcher Road armed with a metal rod. Officials say she was threatening the life of the person with whom she was engaged in argument.
Deputies say that when they tried to coax Cortez into releasing the rod, she took a swing at Deputy Albert Sharp. They say she continued to act non-compliant and violent after they subdued her.
Cortez has been charged with Disturbing the Peace and two counts of Resisting a Police Officer.
