Woman arrested for arson in New Iberia

NEW IBERIA, LA — Sheriff Louis Ackal advises that Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Investigations Division arrested an individual for simple arson on Friday, April 20.
Detectives believe the suspect is responsible for causing a fire at a residence located at the 3600 Block of South Curtis Lane, New Iberia.
Detectives received information that when the owners of the residence returned home, they observed a corner of the home to be on fire. After the fire was extinguished by the Iberia Parish Fire District it was determined the fire was started by using an accelerant and intentionally set.
Detectives located a suspect, Libby Bergeron, 48, and evidence linking Bergeron to the fire.
Bergeron was arrested for simple arson and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
