Warrants issued for illegal waste dumpers
BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - Four men were issued arrest warrants for dumping an illegal substance on March 1.
Marcus Lynn Rhodes, 36; Marvin Rhodes, 36; Gregory DeWayne Felts, 20; and Steven Michael Edwards, 23; all of Bastrop, LA, are being charged with Illegal Disposal of a Substance and Simple Criminal Damage to Property.
These men allegedly disposed of 275 waste tires and other trash in Morehouse Parish. It has been determined that none of the men are certified to haul waste tires, and that they were dumping the tires and debris so they didn’t have to pay disposal fees.
“Illegally dumped scrap tires pose a serious threat to human health and the environment. Tires stored outside retain water and pose a health threat by providing an ideal breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes and rodents,” said Jeffrey Nolan, Manager of the Department of Enviromental Quality (DEQ). “The eradication of illegal dumping of waste tires and waste debris is a top priority of DEQ.”
