Walker police arrested a man and woman suspected to be involved in several thefts and burglaries in the Walker area.

On Thursday, officers arrested John D. King, 22, of Denham Springs, and his girlfriend Lauren D. Howze, 21, of Livingston.

Police had been investigating multiple thefts in the area of Joseph Street in Walker since June 2014. Most of incidents involved stolen lawn and garden equipment.

Since King lives in the area, several witnesses were familiar with him and reported seeing him near some of the crime scenes.

After investigating pawn shops, detectives learned that King had been involved in 45 transactions since mid-June.

Police interviewed King on July 14, and he admitted to as many as 20 cases of stealing and pawning items to fund his drug addiction. Detectives also learned that King had stolen video game equipment from the Walker Walmart.

King was charged with nine counts of misdemeanor theft of 29 items.

Howze, King’s girlfriend, contacted police and said she had participated in the thefts and burglaries along with King. After further investigation, Howze was also charged with the misdemeanor thefts.
