A violent Thursday night in the Capital City brings the total number of murders up to four already for 2013, just two weeks in to the new year. That comes just days after the police department celebrated a quiet end to the murder rate in 2012. People living in these violent neighborhoods say the crime has crept up to epidemic proportions.

It's a scene no one wants to come home to after a hard days work.

"I saw the flashing lights and then I kind of peeped out of the door and I realized that something had happened upstairs. You know they were just stretching the tape out. At that time I knew it had to be a homicide," said Reginald Patterson, a neighbor to one of the three victims of Thursday’s multiple homicides.

It was a scene played out in three separate neighborhoods across Baton Rouge Thursday night. A violent murder on Plank Road, one on La Margie Avenue and a third on Hollywood. Police have said all appeared to be isolated incidents.

"These particular incidents aren't related, are connected in no way shape or form. They're completely different and isolated from each other,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely explained.

The violent night brings the total number of murders for 2013 up to four. Two arrests have been made in the Thursday night killings, but one murderer is still at large. The suspect who shot at an apartment full of people, killing a 26 year old mother who police say was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Any and everybody who was in that room could have gotten injured and one person did. Like I said earlier, we don't think she was the intended target," McKneely added.

For neighbors, it seems, the crime problem continues to escalate. And they say they're ready for it to end.

"Seeing what's happening in the streets, seeing what's going on in people's lives and what they're doing today. It's just, of course, a concern," Patterson added.
