Violent career criminal arrested for rape of woman he met in a bar

NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — A convicted sex offender is back behind bars for allegedly raping a woman for hours, causing her to collapse after she managed to escape.
The New Orleans Police Department reports that the victim met her accused attacker, Michael Childs, 52, on Sept. 20, 2012. The victim says the two talked, had drinks, and left the bar together to go back to Childs’ residence, which is located on the 4300 block of North Prieur Street.
The victim claims that once inside the home, Childs became violent. The 51-year-old woman says he refused to let her leave and sexually assaulted her for hours. She told officers that she escaped the home and ran to the 1900 block of Poland Avenue where she collapsed.
DNA evidence was collected and an arrest warrant was obtained. Childs was arrested on October 26, 2012.
Childs is currently on probation until November 2013 for a guilty plea related to a charge of Forcible Rape. That incident occurred in August 2008. His prior arrests also include Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Rape, Simple Robbery, Domestic Violence Prohibited, Resist/Obstruct an Officer, Battery, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Crack, Possession of Stolen Property, Theft, Receiving Stolen Things, Criminal Trespass, Lewd Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, Obstructing Public Places, Criminal Damage to Property, Public Drunkenness, Begging, Warrants, Attachments and Traffic Violations.
