ORIGINAL STORY (07-12-2011): A pastor from Hammond, La. was murdered Monday, July 11 while on vacation at a beachfront home in Waveland, Mississippi. Police have identified and arrested a suspect.
Jeremy Wayne Manieri, 31, has been charged in connection to the death of Rev. Edward E. Everitt, 70, who was a pastor at Holy Ghost Parish in Hammond. Officials say Manieri is a convicted sex offender who worked at the Dominican Retreat House in Waveland.
Everitt was discovered on Monday around 4:30 in the afternoon by a caretaker in the house.
“I express my utter shock and profound mourning over the news of the murder of Father Edward Everitt, revered pastor of Holy Ghost and Our Lady of Pompeii Churches,” Bishop Robert Muench, said in a statement regarding the incident. “This tragic loss of Father Ed’s life leaves a deeply-felt void in all our lives. Together we pray to the Author of all life to provide Father Ed with the peace of eternal life. May our grief be seen in that perspective as we thank God for his valued life and priestly ministry.”
A mass of remembrance will be held tonight at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church. That will begin at 7:00 p.m.
