UPDATE: Man arrested in conjunction with fatal Plaquemine parade shooting
PLAQUEMINE, LA (NBC33) — THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: Police have arrested the man accused of shooting Dewayne Smith, Akeem Gailes.
He is charged with second degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, simple battery, and carrying of a firearm at a parade with the firearm being used in the commission of a crime.
Gailes is being held at the Iberville Parish Jail.

Akeem Gailes is accused of shooting Dewayne Smith in the chest during the Plaquemine Community Parade on Sunday.
Police say the shooting stemmed from an argument Gailes was having with Smith's cousin at the parade.
The Plaquemine Police Department want to catch Gailes immediately.

ORIGINAL STORY (2/20): A man was killed during a shooting at a Mardi Gras parade in Plaquemine this weekend.
The shooting happened around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the community parade in Iberville Parish.
Reports say police have a suspect, but they have not yet made an arrest. No details were given related to a motive for the shooting.
