East Baton Rouge Parish, La (NBC33) — THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office arrested Darnell Mealy, 24, for the murder of his grandfather.

Mealy is accused of shooting James Spears, 75, around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at a home on Abraham Drive. Officials say the two were involved in an argument before the shooting. After the incident, Mealy fled the scene in Spear’s van.

Mealy was apprehended around 1:30 a.m. with the vehicle on Plank Road.

Mealy has been charged with Second Degree Murder and was booked into Parish Prison.
 

ORIGINAL STORY (12-28-11): EBRSO detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred at approximately 8:27 p.m. this evening on Abraham.
