BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: The man accused of shooting his estranged wife still has no bond tonight.
Frank Atkins faced a judge today; he’s accused of shooting Kayla Atkins, 23, who is four months pregnant.
Frank Atkins is charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder and Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon.
ORIGINAL STORY: A US Marshal Task Force involving federal, state and local authorities have arrested a man they say shot his pregnant wife yesterday.
US Marshal Kevin Harrison tells NBC33 News that Frank Atkins, 26, was arrested at an apartment complex on North Ardenwood earlier today, Wednesday, June 20. Harrison says Atkins didn’t resist being arrested.
Atkins is thought to have shot his estranged wife, Kayla Atkins, several times after an argument.
Atkins will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Atkins was quickly developed as a suspect due to tips from the community and evidence discovered during the investigation.
