THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: A warrant has been issued for a second suspect in the armed robbery of Babe’s Corner Grocery. Deputies are seeking the whereabouts of J.W. “Wayne” Riggins, 32, of Walker. We’re told he is approximately 150 pounds and around 5’9” tall. His last known address is North Morgan Road in Walker.


THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested John M. Shelton in connection with the armed robbery that occurred earlier this afternoon.

Shelton has been booked and has a $100,000 bond.

ORIGINAL STORY (02-21-12: 01:30 p.m.) : The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department is tracking down an armed robbery suspect and his accomplices. They’ve recovered the vehicle used in the robbery, but now they’re trying to find the persons responsible.

The robbery happened at 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Babes Corner Grocery north of Walker almost outside of Livingston Parish.

Officials say a man walked into the store wearing a mask and was armed with a weapon. They say the man jumped the counter and forced the cashier to empty the register. They have not yet determined how much money was taken.

We’re told the man left the store and got into a truck that had two individuals waiting inside. We’re told one of the suspects in the vehicle may have been female. The light blue ford truck seen above was recovered about an hour later on side street about three miles from the store.

Deputies are trying to track these suspects down.
