THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: In the homicide investigation, officers with the Baker Police Department arrested Derrick Shynell Lucas Jr., 17, of Baker for the murder of Joshua Troy Weathersby. Interviews with the victim's family revealed that Lucas, who was a known acquaintance to the victim, and was the last person recently seen with the victim prior to his death.

Lucas was questioned by detectives about the incident, and later confessed to shooting the victim after the two men had gotten into an argument with one another. Lucas was booked into the East Baton Rouge parish prison on one count of Second Degree Murder, and Illegal use of a Firearm.
 

THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: Police tell NBC33 News that a police officer was flagged down around 8:00 this morning. Police say 19-year-old Joshua weathersby's body was found along Highway 19 near Ray Wieland near railroad tracks.

Officials believe Weathersby may have been killed Wednesday night. We're told he died from a gunshot wound.
 

ORIGINAL STORY: The Baker Police Department is currently working a homicide. Around 8 a.m. this morning one of our patrolman was flagged down by a citizen who advised he saw a person that appeared to be sleeping on a path along La 19 near Ray Wieland west of the railroad tracks. Upon the officers arrival he observed a young black male that was unresponsive laying on the path.
