BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 41-year-old man died yesterday evening after he was shot in the doorway of his apartment.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office reports that the shooting occurred at roughly 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13 in the Jefferson Lake Apartment complex. We’re told the victim, Ellis Banks, answered a knock at his door and was shot by an unknown suspect.

Neighbors say they’re shocked by the incident as the area is normally very quiet.

Investigators have not yet identified a suspect or motive for this shooting.
