Kilgore, Texas (KETK) — The Kilgore Police Department believes they have identified an East Texas man, serving time in a Louisiana jail, as the suspect who dressed as a woman in an August 2012 liquor store robbery.
Detective Roman Roberson of the Kilgore Police Department, tells KETK Gene Autry Williams, Jr., 42, was identified from store surveillance footage which was posted on Facebook and YouTube. The items worn by Williams included a wig, dress and purse which were unknowingly taken from a member of Williams' family who was deceased. The items were recognized by another family member of Williams who contacted Kilgore Police.
Williams entered the Rose Package Store, August 4, 2012, "dressed to the nines" in a green dress, bob hairstyle wig and sunglasses trying to hide his identity. Roberson tells KETK, Williams placed money on the clerk's counter before pulling out handcuffs and drawing his gun. He then allegedly forced the store owner to handcuff himself, which allowed Williams to leave the location with an undisclosed amount of cash.
KETK spoke with officials at the Sabine Parish Jail informing them of the situation and authorities confirmed Williams is being held in their jail on a charge of vehicle theft.
Roberson says Williams has refused to talk to police about the alleged robbery, but he did provide officials with a DNA sample. He also says, Williams is a suspect and has not had formal charges filed against him and they will be taking this case to the grand jury.
KETK will update information as it becomes available.
