Two women arrested for first-degree murder of toddler

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested two women today for the First-Degree Murder of a 23-month-old child.
Tiara Dunmars, 23, and Jacqueline Cheatham, 21, both of Baton Rouge are charged with the First-Degree Murder of Justyce Cheatham, the 23-month-old son of Jacqueline.
According to reports, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted on Thursday, June 6 at 5:30 p.m. in reference to a child with life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. EMS transported the victim to the hospital after he stopped breathing. The child’s mother, Cheatham, informed detectives that her life-partner, Dunmars, called her at work to notify her the child had stopped breathing.
The child died while in the hospital Saturday afternoon. An autopsy was performed Tuesday afternoon, and it was determined that the child died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
The pathologist also listed the victim’s injuries as follows: old fractures to the ribs, brain swelling, closed head injuries with multiple impact points, bruising, and old fractures above the ankles. It was also noted that the fatal head injury the victim received occurred in the early morning hours of June 6, while in the care of the mother and the mother’s partner.
Detectives arrested both women this afternoon, and they will be transported to parish prison.
This is the second infant homicide case for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office in 2013.
