Two dead in officer-involved shootout on Westbank

Two people are dead this morning on the Westbank following a chase and shootout with police.

The incident happened early this morning at the Westbank Expressway near Barataria in New Orleans.

The two suspects, Terrence Ellis and Tyre Leone, were allegedly involved in an armed robbery and the Gretna Police began chasing the two men in a car. At some point the car crashed on the Expressway and Ellis exited the vehicle and began shooting at police.

Officers fired back and shot and killed that man.

The second suspect, Leone, then got out of the vehicle and jumped off the Westbank Expressway. He landed on concrete. He was taken to the University Hospital, but was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.

Terrence Ellis has a prior criminal history with multiple arrests for Simple Burglary, Theft, Aggravated Burglary, Simple Kidnapping and Narcotics Violations. Ellis was on Parole until March 2015 for Narcotics Violations.

Tyre Leone has a prior criminal history with multiple arrests for Aggravated Assault, Simple Battery and Narcotics Violations. Leone was on Parole until December 2013 for Illegal Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Simple Escape and Resisting An Officer.
