Two Covington police officers arrested on battery charges

Covington, La (WDSU-CNN) — Two officers with the Covington Police Department were arrested on charges of simple battery and malfeasance in office.
The arrest came in connection with the alleged use of excessive force on an arrestee at the police department.
The incident was uncovered in January, however, the Department’s Internal Affairs Unit said, the incident happened in November.
Officer Anthony Adams and Officer Nicholas Harper are the officers accused in the incident.
According to officials, Adams, who has worked with the department for four years, resigned when the investigation began. Harper has been with the department since June 2011. He is still with the department, but on unpaid leave, according to investigators.
The two were booked at the Covington Police Department and taken to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
