Two arrested in connection with Lafayette shooting

Two suspects were arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on August 4, 2013, where a Hammond man was shot in the leg area while standing outside of his residence.

Allegedly, Kenish Smith, 22, of Springfield, drove one Travon Pitts, 25, of Hammond, to an apartment complex on Happywoods a maroon 2001 Oldsmobile where Dejaun Anderson resided.

Upon making contact with Anderson, Pitts was said to have pulled out handgun and shot Anderson from the passenger seat of the vehicle. Anderson was struck one time in the thigh area.

After further investigation, detectives were able to link both suspect to the crime and subsequently made an arrest. Both will be charged with Second-Degree Aggravated Battery.

Smith is currently in the Parish Jail, while Pitts sits in the Livingston Parish Jail on unrelated charges. Pitts will be extradited to Tangipahoa Parish.

The victim is reported in good condition. His wound was non-life threatening.
