Two arrested for several armed robberies in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, LA — Two men are behind bars today for the robbery of multiple businesses in the area.
Javier Esteves Torres and Gilberto Rivera Vega, both of Baton Rouge, were charged and booked into EBR Parish Prison on Armed Robbery.
The first incident occurred on April 17, 2012, shortly before 3:00 p.m. EBRSO Uniform Patrol responded to an armed robbery at Southern Cross Wireless located on Perkins Road.
The victim stated that an unknown male suspect entered the store banished a weapon, walked behind the counter and demanding money. The victim stated that the unknown suspect took the victim’s personal iphone 3G, a display model Fusion cell phone and a Rugby cell phone. The victim stated that the unknown suspect had a Spanish accent.
On April 25, 2012, just before 5:00 p.m., EBRSO Uniform Patrol responded to an armed robbery at the Radio Shack located on Highland Road. The victim stated that two unknown male suspects entered the store brandishing unknown type of handguns. One of the suspects approached the cashier counter and demanded the victim open the cash drawer. The other unknown suspect made another employee walk to the back of the store where he also demanded money. The victim stated that the unknown suspects stole $334.00.
On April 26, 2012, at around 7:40 p.m., EBRSO Uniform Patrol responded to an armed robbery at the Albertson’s located on Bluebonnet Blvd. The victim stated that an unknown suspect described as a white or Hispanic male entered the store produced a black semi-automatic handgun and stole $750.00, from the cash drawer.
On April 30, 2012, at around 4:00 p.m., EBRSO Uniform Patrol responded to an armed robbery at the Boost Mobile located on Perkins Rd. The victim stated that an unknown Hispanic male suspect entered the store produced a firearm and stole $627.00, from the cash drawer and approximately (20) display cell phones.
On May 2, 2012, the EBRSO and Baton Rouge City Police Department Armed Robbery Division began a joint investigation of the above listed armed robberies as well as similar armed robberies, which the Baton Rouge City Police were investigating.
On May 2, 2012, at around 8:30 a.m., EBRSO and Baton Rouge Police Department made contact with a Gilberto Vega. Vega did admit to committing the armed robbery on May 1, 2012, of a Radio Shack on Drusilla Lane, with a Javier Esteves-Torres, which was being investigated by the Baton Rouge Police Department.
On May 2, 2012, at approximately 1:30 p.m., EBRSO and BRPD Armed Robbery Detectives contacted Javier Esteves-Torres at his residence on Coy Ave. in Baton Rouge.
During questioning Esteves-Torres stated that he committed the armed robberies at the following: Southern Cross Wireless, Albertson’s, and Boost Mobile. In addition, Esteves-Torres stated that he and Gilberto Vega, committed the armed robbery at Radio Shack.
During a search of Esteves-Torres residence two cell phones from the armed robbery at the Southern Cross Wireless were found.
Both Esteves-Torres and Vega were transported to the EBR Parish Prison where they were charged and booked accordingly.
