Two arrested for outstanding warrants, drugs, after reckless driving traffic stop

PONCHATOULA, LA — Two people were arrested in Ponchatoula for driving recklessly. One of the suspects had several outstanding warrants, and there was drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Office reports that the incident occurred in the late afternoon on Tuesday, July 10. Deputy John Eady was patrolling on Hwy 22 in Ponchatoula, when he observed a white Ford truck turn north on to East Rateau Rd. in a reckless manor.
As Deputy Eady attempted to catch up with the vehicle, he observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and traveling in the center of the roadway. Eady then initiated a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Christopher Lee Crochet, 31 of Ponchatoula. At this time, Crochet was unable to provide a valid license or proof of insurance. Crochet also had several outstanding failure to appear warrants. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with Careless Operation of a Vehicle, Driving Under a Suspended License, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 3 Failure to Appear Warrants.
Crochet’s passenger, Curtis j Watts, 23, of Ponchatoula, also had outstanding warrants. He was taken not custody and charged with Possession of CDSII and Fugitive of another Jurisdiction.
While being detained, Watts dropped a cigarette box to the ground. Upon picking it up, it was observed that it contained methamphetamines.
Both subjects were then transported to the Parish Jail for processing.
