A 20-year-old man was found dead from multiple stab wounds in Opelousas last night. Two suspects were quickly arrested and placed behind bars.

The Opelousas Police Department was called to Ina Claire Drive just before 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18. When they arrived they found the victim, Tevin Garrett lying in the street suffering from stab wounds to his chest and lower torso.

Garrett was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead roughly one hour after he was found.

An investigation revealed that Garrett had been involved in an altercation with Joseph Guy Jr., 20, when it got heated. That’s when Garrett allegedly stabbed the victim repeatedly.

A second suspect, Shaquille Dawn, was arrested for his involvement in the incident. Chief Perry Gallow tells NBC33 News that Dawn gave witness to the incident, but provided several conflicting versions of what happened.

Garrett was arrested and charged with Manslaughter and Aggravated Battery.

Dawn was also arrested and charged with Obstruction of Justice and Civil Battery.
