Truck full of stolen rebar from construction site lands man behind bars

The Zachary Police Department arrested a man for theft of rebar from construction sites. They learned about the man through a tip called in by a concerned citizen.

On June 14, Zachary Police Department Detective's received a tip that a large amount of rebar was in the back of a truck located on Roosevelt Street in Zachary. Detective's went to this residence and found a truck backed into this driveway.

Upon getting onto the elevated front porch, to attempt to make contact with the accused, they could see into the back of this truck and they observed a large amount of half inch rebar curb pins matching the description of the rebar that has been stolen from several new construction job sites in the Zachary area since early April 2012.

Detectives made contact with the owner of this truck at this residence, who was Kenny Franklin. The accused was brought to the Zachary Police Department Detectives office, where he admitted to stealing these items from the new construction job site at the Zachary High School.

The value of this curb rebar is valued at .85 cents per piece and the accused was in possession of 342 pieces, which totals up to $290.70 and the man hole covers are valued at approx. $300.00 each, which comes to a total grand of $890.70 stolen during this theft.
