What started as a routine traffic stop led to a Mississippi man being arrested on narcotics distribution charges.

On August 20 at around 7:30 a.m., a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office agent conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound on I-10 near Vinton for a traffic violation.

When the sargeant spoke with the driver, Aaron D. Dantzler, 21, of Purvis, MS, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.

During a subsequent search of the car, two luggage bags were found in the trunk of the car. They contained 35 pounds of marijuana wrapped in cellophane, with an estimated street value of $35,000.

Dantzler was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with Possession of CDS I With Intent to Distribute and Driving Under Suspension.

His bond is still pending.
