A routine traffic stop turns into a chase in Hammond on May 28.

An officer doing seatbelt detail observed a driver not wearing a safety belt and stopped the vehicle. The driver seemed extremely nervous and could not produce a valid driver’s license.

When the officer was gathering information, the suspect fled on foot into a wooded area. About an hour later, police found the suspect and he was taken into custody.

Glean Allen Smith, 39, was charged with No Seatbelt, No Driver’s License and Resisting an Officer by Flight.
