Traffic stop leads deputies to home with 14 pounds of marijuana

NEW IBERIA, LA (NBC33) — A traffic stop lead Sheriff’s Deputies to a home with 14 pounds of marijuana. Then, the suspects attempted to run away from the scene.
On Saturday, March 3, an Iberia Parish Sheriff Deputy conducted a traffic stop in New Iberia. Officials say agents developed probable cause to search the vehicle and they found marijuana, prescription medication and contraband.
The deputy arrested the driver, Benjamin Pittman, 32, for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I, Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule IV, Money Derived from Drug Proceeds and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The passenger of the vehicle, Shelisa St. Julien Evans, 34, was also arrested for the same charges.
According to reports, the narcotics investigation continued. Agents then went to the Pittman residence on Nico Town Road. When they arrived, they say two individuals were attempting to remove 14 pounds of marijuana from the home.
They say one suspect, Norman Pittman, 29, attempted to run away from the scene on foot. He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
Norman Pittman was charged with Conspiracy, Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I, Money Derived from Drug Proceeds, and Resisting Arrest.
The second occupant at the residence, Ashley Pittman, 27, was arrested for Conspiracy and Possession of Schedule I with Intent to Distribute.
We’re told more arrests are expected.
