Five people are now in jail for operating a methamphetamine lab and endangering three children.

According to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, the meth lab was first discovered when a deputy responded to a report of suspicious activity at a home in Kentwood.

Sheriff Edwards said the responding deputy immediately recognized the strong chemical odor of an active meth lab, when arriving at the scene in the 69000 block of South River Road.

Three men: Terence Brewer, Daniel Cortex, and Amos Foster were arrested outside of the house.

Another man, Eric Brown was arrested after a brief standoff with deputies.

Deputies also arrested Marie Castleberry, who they found inside the house with 3 children, ages 8-14.

Sheriff Edwards did not specify if the children were in Castleberry’s custody.

After searching the house the TPSO’s Narcotics unit found 15 “Shake and Bake” meth labs, about 47 ounces of methamphetamine oil, precursor materials, and several firearms.

Narcotics agents have located the two individuals who fled the scene that evening.

Sheriff Edwards said that deputies were able to locate two suspects who fled the scene and are investigating, “several other individuals who may be involved this conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamines in our parish.”
