This is an NBC33 News update: The Judge ruled today that the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cannot issue a new permit for the ownership of Tony the Truck Stop Tiger. The Department will also be held responsible for finding Tony a new home. We will have more on this story on NBC33 News at 5 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: Lawyers for the national non profit Animal Legal Defense Fund are fighting to free Tony, a 10 year old Siberian Bengal tiger, who is kept at a truck stop in Grosse Tete. ALDF says the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries violated the state law, when they granted a permit to Tony's owner Michael Sandlin. ALDF will aruge that Tony should be released to the custody of ALDF or to an accredited animal sanctuary. Tony has been at the Tiger Truck Stop since 2000. We'll have more details tonight on NBC33 News at 5 and 10.

Tony’s supporters greatly appreciate the persistent efforts of The Animal Legal Defense Fund, Former State Representative Warren Triche, the Louisiana residents who voiced their concern for Tony, Big Cat Rescue of Tampa Florida, and people all over the world who never gave up the fight for Tony’s relocation to a proper home. While Judge Caldwell's decision of granting a permanent injunction barring the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries from issuing any future permits to Tony's owner is a positive action for Tony, it is disappointing that the current permit was not revoked. The unhealthy and unnatural environment of a truck stop is definitely not a suitable habitat for a tiger or any animal. Accredited big cat sanctuaries can provide Tony with a natural habitat, medical care, proper diet, enrichment, and the peace and respect he deserves. We are all looking forward to when Tony will have the home, care, life and respect he deserves, and will continue to advocate on his behalf until such action is taken.

THE FREE TONY THE TIGER CAMPAIGN FOUNDER AND FRIENDS GREATLY APPRECIATE THAT ALDF STEPPED UP AND SPOKE FOR TONY IN THE COURT OF LAW. WE ARE DEEPLY CONCERNED THAT TONY MAY NOT MAKE IT UNTIL DECEMBER BECAUSE OF HIS CURRENT HEALTH AND WE ARE WORKING CLOSLY WITH ALDF AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO ATTEMPT TO GET A VET OUT TO SE TONY BEFORE IT IS TO LATE. THE LAST VIDEO OF TONY ONLY POSTED DAYS AGO BY A KIND WOMEN DID SAY THAT HIS BONES ARE STILL VISIBLE AND HE WALKS AROUND WITH HIS HEAD DOWN AT ALL TIMES. THIS IS A SIGN OF DEPRESSION PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE FEELS. PLEASE KEEP SIGNING THE PETITIONS AND LET’S DO OUR BEST TO GET HIM OUT OF THERE BEFORE DECEMBER 2011. HIS LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.
IT'S TO BAD THAT ALL THE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ONLY COME OUT WHEN THE MEDIA IS INVOLVED.....
WE WILL KEEP FIGHTING FOR TONY 'UNTIL HIS LAST BREATH'................

Stay strong Tony we are here.
