Three-time convicted felon arrested for Belle Chasse burglary

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA — Maranda Hickman, 24, has been arrested for simple burglary.
On Thursday March 28, 2013, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Hickman was discovered by a homeowner inside his residence’s attached garage in the 700 block of Dr. Gorman Drive in Belle Chasse. Hickman was not known by the victim, nor did she have permission to be on the property.
Upon approaching Hickman, the homeowner learned that she was stealing property from his garage. When confronted, Hickman became involved in a brief physical confrontation with the homeowner in which the he sustained a minor laceration to his hand. The homeowner was later treated by Plaquemines Parish Emergency Medical Services for his injuries.
Hickman fled the scene in her vehicle, a maroon colored 2009 Honda Civic. The homeowner and a witness followed Hickman to her residence in the 100 block of Seatrain Road in Belle Chasse, where she entered the home.
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office First District Patrol Division immediately arrived on Seatrain Road and secured the location after the occupants refused to answer repeated knocks on the door. Detectives obtained a search warrant for both the residence, and the vehicle that was used in the crime.
Upon executing the search warrant, Hickman and a separate wanted individual, Patrick Rooney, 45, of the 100 block of Seatrain Road, were found inside the residence. Furthermore, investigators recovered the homeowner’s stolen property, which included multiple tools and a semi-automatic pistol.
Investigators also recovered additional property during the search that is believed to be stolen, which is described as multiple power tools and a camera. Victims are requested to contact Detective Brett Taylor at 504-392-1652 to identify the property.
During the investigation, investigators learned that Hickman was committing the burglary to support her heroin addiction.
Maranda Hickman was arrested and charged with simple burglary, theft of a firearm, simple battery, and a being a felon in possession of a firearm. Hickman has three prior felony convictions in Jefferson Parish’s 24th Judicial District Court for possession of a schedule II CDS, burglary, and access device fraud.
Patrick Rooney was arrested and charged with resisting arrest by refusing to give the correct name, misrepresentation during booking, and an outstanding Jefferson Parish attachment. In October 2012, Rooney pled guilty to possession of a schedule II CDS in Jefferson Parish’s 24th Judicial District Court. He is currently on probation until October 2013.
