Three eastern New Orleans teens, one wearing an ankle bracelet monitoring device, were arrested in St. Bernard Parish after deputies said the trio went on a 20-vehicle burglary spree early Wednesday morning.

The three were arrested by deputies near a school. Deputies said the three teens, 18-year-old Darnell Benjamin, and two 15-year-old teens, were found in possession of stolen property, including two rifles and scopes, a compound bow, $430 in cash, jewelry and other items.

The sheriff’s office said it began receiving calls about the burglaries about 3 a.m. from Meraux.

Deputies on patrol were alerted by a resident who was a victim in an attempted theft and tracked down Benjamin and the two other teens about 6:45 a.m.

Benjamin and the other two, whose names weren’t released because they are juveniles, were taken into custody. The sheriff’s office said the 15-year-olds were taken to the parish juvenile detention center. According to deputies, one of them had a home incarceration electronic device on one ankle.

Benjamin was arrested on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, attempted theft, contributing to the delinquency of the other two and with misrepresenting himself. The Sheriff’s Office said Benjamin gave a false name in the parish prison when he was initially booked.
