Slidell police arrested three people in connection with a fatal fire at an apartment complex.

Andrew Sumner, 19, Katelyn Lusich, 17, and Devin Baham, 21, were arrested on charges of First-Degree Homicide.

The fire happened about 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23 police said, at an apartment in the 2000 block of Bayou Lane.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, police said, the apartment was engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, crews found a body inside burned beyond recognition.

The coroner’s office is still attempting to identify the victim. Once that is done and the next of kin is notified, the name will be released.

Investigators said they believe the homicide happened during the robbery of the victim for drugs and money. They said the fire was an attempt to cover up the homicide.

Detectives said they learned that Sumner was one of the last people to speak with the victim and that Sumner admitted he bought narcotics from the victim.

During the interview, police said they discovered that Sumner, Lusich and Baham devised a plan to rob the victim of any money and drugs.
