Three arrested for selling illegal synthetic marijuana at a local business
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A three month long investigation spurred by complaints from citizens resulted in three arrests and the seizure of synthetic marijuana from a business in St. Martinville.
On Tuesday, March 20, Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at Am Star Express, located on E. Bridge Street in St. Martinville. They found 2,000 packets of illegal synthetic marijuana with a street value of $128,000 and approximately $230,000 of U.S. currency.
Three were arrested as a result of the investigation.
The manager of the business, Nasar Latif Raja, 43, was arrested on 45 counts of for Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substances (Synthetic Cannabinoids). It was also learned that Raja is an illegal alien.
Also arrested were Ahmed Hashmi, 20, for Distribution of Schedule I CDS (Synthetic Cannabinoids) and Trey Marceaux, 21, for Possession of Schedule II CDS (Oxycodone), No License Plate Light, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Schedule II CDS (cocaine HCL), and Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I CDS (Snythetic Cannabinoids).
