A Jennings man was arrested after he was busted stealing live crawfish from a local farmer. Investigators say he takes orders for the mudbugs from people in the community and has been doing so for years.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted on Sunday, March 17 by a local crawfish farmer located on Highway 90. The farmer reported seeing the suspect dressed in all black at around 8:30 p.m.

Deputies located the suspect, James Darrel Dubroc, 44, and placed him under arrest for Theft of Crawfish and Trespassing. He was arrested twice in 2011 for the same crime.

“He goes around taking orders like a sales man and asks people ‘how many sacks of crawfish do you want?’ Once he gets his orders set up, he goes out to different fields and fills his orders,” Commander Christopher Ivey, Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, said. “He actually got stopped the night before by a reserve officer and he had two sacks of crawfish. But he didn’t catch him in the act so he was unable to place him under arrest.”

Commancer Ivey noted that crawfish thefts are on the rise in the area. He tells us additional patrols have been established around crawfish farms to hopefully catch potential thieves in the act.
