Texas man caught with 2.8 pounds of heroin after traffic stop

COVINGTON, LA (NBC33) — Following a traffic stop on I-12 on September 26, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L arrested Michael Madera-Torres, 30, after the discovery of 2.8 pounds of brown heroin in his vehicle.
The traffic stop occurred on Sunday shortly before 3:00 p.m. on I-12 near the LA 21 exit in St. Tammany Parish. Upon observing a traffic violation, troopers performed a traffic stop on the 2010 Dodge Caliber driven by Madera-Torres.
During the course of the stop, Madera-Torres consented to a search of his vehicle leading to the discovery of the drugs in the center console. The estimated street value of the heroin is over $100,000.
Madera-Torres was placed under arrest and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail without incident.
