A man and woman from McKinney, Texas have been locked up after they allegedly broke into six vehicles located in the parking lot of Ascension Catholic Church.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred on Thursday, April 25. Officials say a 2003 Lexus was reported stolen from the church in Donaldsonville.

The stolen vehicle was located a short time later off Highway 3125 near Hwy. 70 in St. James Parish.

A witness told investigators that a black-colored vehicle was seen leaving the area where the stolen vehicle was located. It was later identified as a black Pontiac G6 with a Texas license plate.

St. James deputies were later notified of an attempted vehicle theft at an Auto Zone in Lutcher. When they arrived on scene, they spotted the black Pontiac G6.

A search was conducted of the vehicle occupied by Erick Byington, 32, and Ashley Nicole Lee, 23. They say they located stolen property from the Lexus as well as the additional vehicles that were burglarized.

Both were arrested and charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle and six counts of Simple Burglary of a Vehicle. They are each being held at the St. James Parish Jail on unrelated charges and fugitive from another jurisdiction (Ascension Parish).
