An 18 year old man was arrested yesterday, Tuesday, April 3, for allegedly committing a residential burglary and shooting in the Baker area.

The Baker Police Department arrested Daniel Kent of Jackson, La, for Attempted First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Burglary.

Detectives were called to a home on Day Drive in Baker on Saturday, March 31. Through the investigation they learned that the suspect knew the resident and broke into the home. The occupant of the home says prescription medications along with an electronic device were stolen.

After committing the burglary a neighbor encountered Kent, at which point Kent fired and shot the victim.

Kent was questioned by detectives and they say he admitted to the burglary of the home and to firing the weapon. However, he says the firing of the gun was accidental and not an intentional attempt on someone’s life.

Detectives were able to recover the stolen electronic device.
