A teen from New Orleans was arrested on Friday, Oct. 26 for allegedly opening fire on a college student while he sat in his car.

The New Orleans Police Department reports that the original incident happened on Friday, Oct. 19 in the 7800 block of Burke Street. We’re told the victim, Valan May, 24, was sitting in his car when the teen allegedly pulled out a gun and began shooting.

May was transported to a local hospital, but died as a result of his injuries early the next morning.

Investigators were able to identify the teen with evidence found at the scene and witness testimony.

“Homicide detectives worked countless hours on this case during this past week on a fact-finding mission,” Superintendent Ronal Serpas, New Orleans Police Department, said. “And members of our Intelligence Unit uncovered some of the final details needed to make this arrest. This was a solid effort on our officers’ part, and demonstrative of how they’re determined to make the streets safer for the people of New Orleans.”

The teen was arrested at 7:00 a.m. on Friday at his home on Curran Blvd. He was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on one count of Second-Degree Murder.
