A 16-year-old was arrested for bringing a gun to school and three additional students were arrested for possession of drugs.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded to Independence High School on Tuesday, Sept. 10. They were notified after someone reported that the student was smoking marijuana in the school’s bathroom.

When deputies searched the teen, they found a 38 caliber handgun wrapped in a T-shirt that was located in his back pack. We’re told it was not loaded.

The school was placed on lockdown after the gun was recovered. A search of the campus was completed to ensure that no more weapons were on the grounds. During the search they located drugs on three students.

The teen was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Firearm while in the Possession of a CDS, Possession of Stolen Property, and Possession of a Firearm in a Drug Free Zone.

The teens were booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
