This morning, the Attorney General’s High Technology Crime Unit, aided by federal and local authorities, arrested Thomas Preston Newman, Jr., 26, a suspected child predator.

Newman, of Gonzales, was booked into the Ascension Parish Prison on nine counts of pornography involving juveniles. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison on each count.

The Attorney General’s High Technology Crime Unit partnered with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations to conduct the undercover operation.

Ive known this person for a long time. He is not a bad person. If he did indeed do what they say he did, I feel that he needs help for a sickness. NOT major prison time.. Good luck Preston, Im praying for you

This is my cousin. He IS a good guy and not a bad person. No one should have such a hard punishment for "looking on the internet" at something society deems wrong. Not that long ago, women married at 14 and 15 years old and had children at this age. He would never commit a real crime or harm anyone. This is ridiculous and I am outraged. Major prison time should not be a consequence. What is wrong with this world. How can someone commit murder and serve less of a sentence? I love you cousin!
