Suspect wanted in shooting death at floral nursery

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect involving in a murder that took place in a Hammond floral nursery.

At approximately 4:35 p.m., 911 received a call from Vic Alvarez, who reported that he had just returned to Alvarez Nursery and found his wife, Mary Alvarez, lying on the floor unresponsive, bleeding from her head.

Both Acadian and TPSO were dispatched to the scene. Mrs. Alvarez was quickly transported to North Oaks Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office immediately secured the scene and processed it for several hours.

The Coroner’s Office determined that the cause of death was single gunshot wound to the head.

This is still an active investigation by TPSO. Evidence, along with the preliminary autopsy report, suggests that the shooting of Mrs. Alvarez was not a random act of violence.
